If you are on Windows, you need the correct driver.
On Windows, driver installation is often automatic via Windows Update for Windows 11 and 10. However, for older versions of Windows (8 and earlier), you will need to run CypressDriverInstaller_1.exe to install the USB-CDC driver. After installation, the COM port number assigned to the device may change, which is normal.
