But version 20 had another feature. The “Final Work.”
The Smirniy mod vastly expands upon this setup, adding dozens of new events, deeper relationship paths, and multiple possible endings, including a satisfying and "reasonable conclusion" to the entire saga.
One of the most impressive statistics highlighting the mod's sheer size is the explosion of visual content. The original game was already substantial, but Smirniy's mod pushed it to new heights. The total number of CG renders increased from around 1,975 in the base game to a massive (or even over 4,800 in later iterations), accompanied by a significant increase in animated content as well. This represents hundreds, if not thousands, of new scenes, events, and character interactions, making the world feel far more alive and interactive.

Smirniy’s notes, buried deep in the system’s code, had been clear: At the point of mutual recognition, the experiment achieves its purpose. The observer becomes the observed. The warden becomes the inmate. The only ethical conclusion is a choice. big brother mod by smirniy version 20 final work

The community reception to v20 Final has been polarized. Some purists argue that by removing any hope of resistance, Smirniy has created a "railroaded misery simulator" rather than a proper strategy game. Yet, this critique misses the mod’s artistic intention. In a forum post accompanying the release, Smirniy wrote: “The final version is not for winning. It is for understanding. If you feel despair, you have learned the lesson.”

What is the Big Brother Mod?
Smirniy’s Big Brother Mod v20 Final Work is a landmark in ludic narrative. It is a difficult, bleak, and often tedious experience—by design. It refuses to entertain, choosing instead to educate through discomfort. For the Victoria 2 community, it remains a testament to what modding can achieve: not just new nations or units, but a new lens through which to view the terrifying efficiency of a world where power is an end in itself. In the final analysis, the mod’s greatest achievement is making the player genuinely understand why, in the face of such a system, Winston Smith wept.
The message passed across “No Other Name” was certainly impressing but maybe it’s just me feeling like Broken Vessels (Amazing Grace) was the only song that is worth repeating over and over again. After setting the bar high with the release of last year’s Zion, I expected to hear something more powerful. The rest of the songs sounded like the Hillsong I used to know before Zion. I just felt the release of the album was too soon when I heard the announcement.
Hillsong is definitely one of those bands with ‘hit and miss’ albums. To me, I enjoyed this album thoroughly. Obviously when they do yearly albums (ZION was Hillsong UNITED actually, not Hillsong Worship!) some albums will resonate more so with different listeners. No worries if you didn’t like this album as much, I don’t think the band is concerned if they are universally liked or not!
Yeah “Broken Vessels” is pretty cool, and I think Taya Smith is one of those vocalists that will be big in the near future, for Hillsong and for CCM and worship music overall as well!
Yes, you’re right Josh. They changed their name to Hillsong Worship; perhaps that’s why they have a different sound. I will be looking forward to their next album. 🙂
