The series begins with (Jason Ralph), a brilliant but depressed young man who has always felt out of place in the real world. His obsession with a series of fantasy novels about the magical land of Fillory has been his only escape. His life takes an unexpected turn when he is mysteriously admitted to Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy , a secret and elite institution where students are trained to become true magicians.
